After recovery, a person did not make up for the missed days of Sawm before his death
Q:
My father has been ill for about a year. He was not aware that the month of Ramadan had commenced; and when he recovered, he did not make up for this month. It should be known that he was religiously committed; however, the illness was extremely severe. (Part No. 9; Page No. 132) He died when he was over ninety years old.
He left a son who works and other sons as well as daughters who are married. Is it permissible for his family to make up for the missed days of Sawm (Fast) or pay Kaffarah (expiation) on his behalf?
A:
If he recovered from his illness and did not make up the missed days of Sawm while he was alive, one of his family members should make up for these days on his behalf.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
