Zakah on real estate

A: If the mentioned house was put up for sale during this period, Zakah becomes due on its price for each year. The Zakah is due on the inheritors, each according to his share of the amount, if the share hits the Nisab (the minimum amount on which Zakah is due) or more. On the other hand, (Part No. 8; Page No. 165) there is no Zakah due on the inheritor whose share is less than a Nisab. If there was hesitation regarding whether to sell the house or keep it as property for the inheritors, there is no Zakah due on it unless it is rented. In this case, each inheritor should pay the Zakah due on his or her share of the rent if it reaches a Nisab and a Hawl (one lunar year calculated from the time a property reaches the minimum amount upon which Zakah is due) passes on it.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
