Q 11:
someone who performed Hajj had to offer a sacrificial animal but he could not get one on the first day of `Eid-ul-Adha (the Festival of the sacrifice) or on all the Days of Tashriq (11th, 12th and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah). However, now it is the last day of Tashriq. Should he stay behind to observe Sawm (fast) for three days or what should he do?
A:
If someone is liable to a Hady (sacrificial animal offered by pilgrims) for performing Tamattu` Hajj (`Umrah during the months of Hajj followed by Hajj in the same year with a break in between) or Qiran Hajj (combining Hajj and `Umrah without a break in between) but could not find it at the time of slaughtering for a valid Shar`y (Islamic legal) excuse, and misses the days during which the person who could not get a Hady may observe Sawm for three days, he should observe Sawm for ten complete days when he returns home. In fact, he may not lag behind in
Makkah to observe Sawm for the three days as the time for observing them has elapsed.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
