Women working as air hostesses or waitresses

Q 5: Is it permissible for a Muslim woman to work as an air hostess in an airline company, waitress in hotels or the like?

A: First: Working as a hostess for airline companies requires that women travel abroad without seeking the permission of their husbands and without the accompaniment of a Mahram (spouse or permanently unmarriageable relative) as is the case in reality. Working as such, a woman is more likely to mix freely with men and look at them in an unlawful manner, which are all impermissible. Second: Working in hotels makes a woman a source of seduction and causes her to mix freely and doubtfully with men and stay in seclusion with marriageable men, which undoubtedly has the effect of spreading evil and corruption in society.
