Why do some Muslims pronounce the

Q: Does kissing the thumbs when Al-Mu'adhin says "Ash-hadu Anna Muhammadan Rasulu Allah (I bear witness that Muhammad is The Messenger of Allah)" have any basis in Islam?

A: As far as we know, it is not authentically reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) kissed his thumbs when the Mu'adhin (caller to Prayer) said: "Ash-hadu Anna Muhammadan Rasulu Allah (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah)" during Adhan, therefore, kissing them is an act of Bid`ah (innovation in religion). It is worth mentioning here that it is authentically reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If anybody introduces a practice which is not authenticated by me, it is to be rejected .May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
