Slaughtering an animal for the deceased in this way is a Bid`ah (innovation in religion) that has no basis in Shari`ah (Islamic law) and every Bid`ah is misguidance.
It is prescribed to give Sadaqah (voluntary charity) and make Du`a' (supplication), Hajj or `Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) on behalf of the deceased, as supported by reported evidence.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
