The wife's stepmother as Ajnabiyyah to her husband's son-in-law
Q 5:
Is it permissible for a husband to shake hands with his wife's stepmother?
Provide us with your beneficial answer please.
A: Your wife's stepmother who is not her real mother is considered Ajnabiyyah (a woman other than a wife or permanently unmarriageable female relatives) to you. It is Wajib (obligatory) on her to put on her Hijab (veil) in your presence for Allah (Glorified be He) says regarding women who are forbidden to a man for marriage
...your wives’ mothers
, thus only mothers-in-law are considered Mahrams (unmarriageable relatives) but not wives' stepmothers. (Part No. 17; Page No. 444) However, it is permissible for you to greet your wife's stepmother with words without shaking hands or being in Khulwah (being alone with a member of the opposite sex) with her and while she has her Hijab on. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
