Tawbah from lying

Q: I am an employee in a public establishment. I want to have (Part No. 24; Page No. 337) my own business, but my country's law does not allow people to have two jobs and in order to get a commercial register, I said I am jobless, did I tell a lie? It is worth mentioning that the Islamic law does not prevent a person from having two jobs at the same time since such jobs are lawful. It is a fact that the man-made law prohibits some lawful practices, so I think we can lie regarding such practices when necessary.

A: If the reality is as you have mentioned, you told a lie for which you should turn to Allah in repentance. This is because obedience to the ruler is necessary with regards to such matters.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
