Q 2:
Does a person have to offer Kaffarah (expiation) for breaking the oath which they swear under coercion?
A:
In order for the Kaffarah for breaking an oath to be obligatory, the person should take an oath willingly. No Kaffarah is required from a person who swears an oath under duress. This is based on the Ayah (Qur'anic verse) which reads:
Whoever disbelieved in Allâh after his belief, except him who is forced thereto and whose heart is at rest with Faith
This is also based on the Hadith in which the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
"My Ummah (nation based on one creed) has been pardoned for what they do by mistake, forgetfully, or under duress."
