Swearing a lot

Q 6: My wife often swears a lot to the extent that she almost does so out of habit, is this permissible?

A: Swearing without necessity is not permissible, for Allah (Exalted be He) says: And protect your oaths (i.e. do not swear much). Moreover, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Beware of swearing; as it may sell (the commodity), but it erases (the blessing)." (Related by Muslim) The Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned sale specifically because it involved taking many oaths at the time of prohibition. However, one of the well-established rules is that consideration is given to generality of the wording not to the specificity of the reason.May Allah grant us success.
