Ruling on the two `Eid Prayers

Q 3: Are the two `Eid Prayers obligatory or Sunnah (action following the teachings of the Prophet)? What is the punishment for abandoning them?

A: The Two `Eid Prayers, meaning, `Eid-ul-Fitr (the Festival of Breaking the Fast) and `Eid-ul-Adha (the Festival of the Sacrifice) are collective obligations. However, according to some scholars they are individual obligations just like Jumu`ah (Friday) Prayer that a believer should not abandon.May Allah grant us success.
