Ruling on a hairdresser removing undesirable hair

Q: Some women visit hairdressers who shave their undesirable hair including hair of Al-`Awrah Al-Mughallazhah (the private parts that must be covered in public) especially on the day of their wedding. The hairdressers also pluck the hair of the face and artificially lengthen the hair of those who ask for it. What is the ruling on this? Please guide and explain the ruling for us. May Allah reward you.

A: Both Nams, which is removing the hair of the eyebrow, and Wasl, which is lengthening hair artificially, are major sins and the Prophet (peace be upon him) cursed whomever commits them, whether both or one of them. It is impermissible for a woman to expose her `Awrah Mughallazhah in front of anybody other than her husband. Allah (Exalted be He) said: And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts, from illegal sexual acts) Except from their wives or (the slaves) that their right hands possess Guarding private parts comprises covering them and the prohibition of looking at them except by those whom Allah has made Halal (lawful) for them. (Part No. 17; Page No. 132) Al-`Awrah Al-Mughallazhah may also be exposed in cases of necessity when medical treatment can not otherwise be received. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
