Q: I am a teacher in one of the preparatory schools at
Riyadh.
I teach geography and I have to teach a topic discussing the rotation of the Earth around itself and around the sun. However, I had previously read a book that you wrote entitled: "The Textual and Tangible Evidence on the Possibility of Ascension on Planets, the Rotation of the Sun and the Moon, and the Stillness of the Earth". Indeed, there is a conflict between what you mentioned and the information provided in the textbook. Please, I hope Your Eminence will clarify the point to me on this topic. May Allah reward you with the best!
A:
It is compulsory on the geography teacher, upon teaching students about the geographic theory on
the stillness of the sun and the revolving of the Earth around it, to show them that this theory conflicts with the Ayahs (Qur'anic verses) and the Hadiths of the Prophet and that it is obligatory to adopt what the Qur'an and the Sunnah indicate about this issue and reject what contradicts them. (Part No. 26; Page No. 415) There is nothing wrong with teaching the geographic theory; however, the teacher can review the theory of the geographies not to believe and approve of it, but to know and refute it, as done with other false beliefs.May Allah grant us success. May Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions!
