Resorting to birth control due to a serious illness

Q 2: Is it permissible for me to take contraceptive pills due to my inability to endure pregnancy? I suffer from a gastric ulcer, severe headaches, and uterine prolapsed for which I cannot stop taking medications. Doctors confirmed that pregnancy is difficult for me and that if I become pregnant, I must come off these medications which are indispensable for me. I should also add that I have six children, the youngest of which is six and a half years old.

A: Contraception is permissible in case of necessity where there is a chance of a woman having a serious disease as a result of pregnancy. The case must be examined and approved by a specialized doctor. (Part No. 19; Page No. 326) May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
