Placing a bunch of flowers at the Unknown Soldier Monument

Placing a bunch of flowers at the Unknown Soldier Monument Fatwa no. 6166 If a person places a bunch of flowers on the Unknown Soldier Monument, does the ruling on this act fall under the same ruling on those who glorify their Awliya' (pious people) and righteous people to the extent of worshipping them?


A: This act is a Bid`ah (innovation in religion) and excessiveness in (honoring) the dead. It resembles the act of those who glorify their righteous people and make memorials for them for fear that this may lead to establishing domes over these graves, seeking their blessings and the help of other than Allah (Exalted be He) in the course of time. This should be prohibited so as to block the means to Shirk (Associating others in worship with Allah).May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
