Performing Istinja' in front of people

Q 4: Many Muslims in Yemen have basins in front of the Masjids (mosques) where they perform Istinja' (cleansing the private parts with water after urination or defecation) in front of the people and then resume (Part No. 4; Page No. 33) their Wudu' (ablution). Is their Salah (Prayer) valid? What is the ruling on Istinja' in front of the people?

A: A person who wants to perform Istinja' should screen himself and not reveal his `Awrah (parts of the body that must be covered in public) in front of the people. It is not permissible to perform Istinja' and Wudu' inside these small basins. A person should rather perform Istinja' and Wudu' outside them, so as not to cause the water to become Najis (ritually impure) or dirty.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
