People standing up when reciting verses of glorification

Q 1: Is it an act of Sunnah to stand up while verses of glorification are recited at celebrations held to commemorate the Mawlid (the Prophet's birthday)?

A: Celebrating the Mawlid and holding ceremonies on this occasion are newly-invented Bid‘ahs (innovations in religion) which were not ordained by the Prophet (peace be upon him), either in practice or in words. His Sahabah (Companions, may Allah be pleased with them) did not celebrate the Mawlid, although they valued him the most. It was authentically reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) stated, “Whoever does an action which is not in accordance with this matter of ours (Islam), will have it rejected.” In another narration, “Whoever introduces anything into this matter of ours (Islam) that is not part of it, will have it rejected.” (Part No. 3; Page No. 36) Certainly, all goodness lies in following the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the guidance of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, and all evil lies in shunning their way.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
