Paying Zakah to some person indebted to you
Q 1: Is it permissible to pay Zakah (obligatory charity) to someone who owes me money, and after paying this Zakah, he or she pays off the debt from this Zakah?
A 1: It is not permissible to pay Zakah to a person who owes money to you so that he or she pays off that debt to you; but if you gave them the money because of their poverty and they paid off the debt to you without previously having agreed with you to do so, there would be no problem with this.May Allah grant us success.
