Neglecting the ill father

Q 12: I was present when my father fell ill and I remained with him for a week in hospital. My father-in-law who worked as a supervisor at the same hospital kept me busy with him all the time I was staying with my father to take care of him, to the extent that I was late for my father or that I forgot to try and feed him at times. This was the case for a week until the last day which was a Wednesday when I had checked my father out of the hospital and took him home. My father died that same day in the evening when I was lifting him and I did not wash him. I called the doctor who pronounced his death, may Allah have mercy on him and enter him into Paradise. Am I to blame for my father's death and do I have to expiate in anyway? Please enlighten us and may Allah enlighten you! (Part No. 25; Page No. 136

A: If the reality is as you mentioned, there is no harm on you, unless you are certain that you neglected one of your duties towards him. In this case, you must ask Allah for Forgiveness and perform Tawbah (repentance to Allah).May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
