Listening to songs and poetry

Q 12: What is the ruling on listening to songs and poetry?

A: Listening to songs is prohibited. As for poetry, if it contains nothing but words of wisdom, exhortation, lessons and other lawful things, it will be permissible. (Part No. 26; Page No. 236) However, if it promotes forbidden things or calls people to abandon an obligation, it will not be permissible.May Allah grant us success.
