Q:
A man said that those who place their hands over their chests after rising from Ruku` (bowing) are committing an act of Bid`ah (innovation in religion).
He tells people to let their hands down after rising from Ruku`. Is this view right or wrong? We hope that you could explain this to us with substantiated evidence. May Allah reward you best!
A:
It is authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he used to place his right hand on the left one after Takbirat-ul-Ihram (saying: "Allahu Akbar [Allah is the Greatest]" upon starting Prayer) and after rising from Ruku` (bowing).
Also it is authentically reported that he (peace be upon him) said:
Pray as you have seen me praying.
Therefore, placing the right hand on the left one upon one's chest is neither a Bid`ah nor an error. In fact, it is Sunnah (action following the teachings of the Prophet).May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
