Is it permissible to act upon Da`if Hadiths?
Q 4: Is it permissible to act on the basis of Hadith Da‘if (a Hadith that fails to reach the status of Hasan i.e., Good Hadith due to a weakness in the chain of narration or one of the narrators)?
A: It is permissible to act on the basis of a weak Hadith if it is not very weak and there are relevant reports that support it, or if it agrees with the authentically established rules of Shari‘ah (Islamic law). Moreover, it should not contradict sound Hadith. In this case it will be judged as Hasan Li Ghayrih (A Hadith is judged Good by virtue of another Hadith when its weakness is so slight that it can be raised through another chain to the level of the Good Hadith). This category of Hadith can be taken as evidence in the opinion of scholars.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
