Is it permissible for a Muslim to follow the funeral procession of a deceased who is Christian?
Q 1:
Is it permissible for a Muslim to follow the funeral procession of a deceased who is Christian?
A 1:
It is not permissible for a Muslim to follow the funeral of a Christian or any other Kafirs (disbelievers). He is not also permitted to attend the burial of non-Muslims, because Allah forbade us to take the Kafirs as close friends. Allah (Glorified be He) said:
O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliyâ’ (friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Auliyâ’ of each other.
And:
And never (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) pray (funeral prayer) for any of them (hypocrites) who dies, nor stand at his grave. Certainly they disbelieved in Allâh and His Messenger, and died while they were Fâsiqûn (rebellious, - disobedient to Allâh and His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم).
This proves that the ruling includes all the Kafirs:
The Jews,
the Christians,
the Magi, Idolaters and hypocrites. Following their funerals is part of following their ways.May Allah grant us success. May Allah's Peace and Blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and his Companions!
