Invoking peace and blessings upon

Q: Is it authentically reported that during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that the Adhan (call to prayer) would begin with the saying of Allah (Exalted be He): Allâh sends His Salât (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy) on the Prophet (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), and also His angels (ask Allâh to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Salât on (ask Allâh to bless) him (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), and (you should) greet (salute) him with the Islâmic way of greeting (salutation i.e. As-Salâmu ‘Alaikum ).

A: This is not authentically reported to have taken place neither during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace be upon him) nor (Part No. 6; Page No. 105) during the reign of any of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs (may Allah be pleased with all of them). Rather, it is a Bid`ah (innovation in religion). Furthermore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) is authentically reported to have said: Anyone who introduces anything into this matter of ours (Islam) that is not part of it will have it rejected. (Recorded by both Al-Bukhari and Muslim.) May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
