Q:
Should someone who buys shares in an electricity, fertilizer, or mass transportation company pay Zakah (obligatory charity)
other than the Zakah that the company deducts from its profits for charity work in its final settlement every year? Or is it enough for this person to pay the Zakah on the profit from the shares?
A:
If shareholders entrust a company to pay the Zakah on the profit of their shares, and the company does this, they do not have to pay Zakah again themselves.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
