Having sexual intercourse after cessation of blood and before taking Ghusl
Q 2:
Is it lawful for a husband to have sexual intercourse with his wife before she performs after-menstruation Ghusl (full ritual bath)?
(Part No. 4; Page No. 228
A:
It is not permissible for a husband to have sexual intercourse with his menstruating wife until her menstruation ends and she performs Ghusl, for Allah (Exalted be He) says:
...therefore keep away from women during menses and go not unto them till they are purified (from menses and have taken a bath). And when they have purified themselves, then go in unto them as Allâh has ordained for you (go in unto them in any manner as long as it is in their vagina).
This means when they have performed Ghusl, as explained by Ibn `Abbas, because Allah (Exalted be He) says:
...till they are purified (from menses and have taken a bath).
This indicates removal of the impure matter, i.e. menstrual blood, from them. Then, Allah (Exalted be He) says:
And when they have purified themselves, then go in unto them as Allâh has ordained for you (go in unto them in any manner as long as it is in their vagina).
Accordingly, when they perform Ghusl, it becomes lawful for their husbands to have sexual intercourse with them in the manner ordained for them by Allah. Allah stipulated two conditions for the permissibility of having sexual intercourse with the menstruating woman; the first is the complete cessation of menstrual blood, and the second is taking a full bath to cleanse her body of menstruation. Then Allah (Exalted be He) praised those who adhere to His Law, saying:
Truly, Allâh loves those who turn unto Him in repentance and loves those who purify themselves (by taking a bath and cleaning and washing thoroughly their private parts, bodies, for their prayers).
May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
