Finding a Luqatah outside the Sacred Mosque during Hajj season
Q 9: During the Hajj season I found 1,800 Riyals outside Al-Masjid Al-Haram (the Sacred Mosque in Makkah) in Makkah, or, more precisely, near the Mas‘a (the place where pilgrims walk between the two hills of Safa and Marwah). I still have the money with me here in Algeria. I want to ask about the ruling on it and the ruling on me if I take this money that I found on the ground?
A: If you cannot find its owner, you should send it to Makkah to be distributed among the poor there on behalf of its owner. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
