Paying Zakah to the tribal chief

A: It is obligatory to pay Zakah upon freely grazed sheep if they reach the Nisab (the minimum amount on which Zakah is due). It is also obligatory to pay Zakah upon the grain and fruit that you store, if you possess more than 5 Wasqs (1 Wasq = 60 Sa`s =130,320 kg) of grain. You should pay one tenth of the value of the harvest as Zakah if the land is watered by the rain. It is not permissible to pay it to the chief, instead (Part No. 10; Page No. 26) it should be given to the Zakah collectors, even if they come late. You may give it to the poor and needy, if the Zakah collectors do not come.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
