Leasing agricultural land

A: It is permissible to rent agricultural land against specific sums of money for (Part No. 14; Page No. 373) definite periods of time. Evidence for this is that it is narrated on the authority of Ibn `Umar: The Jews asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to allow them to dwell in Khaybar provided that they cultivate the land and give half the crops or fruits thereof to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him.) Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "We allow you to do so for the period we will." (Related by Al-Bukhari, Muslim, Ahmad, and Abu Dawud). May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
