Anesthetizing animals before slaughtering them

Q 4: If an animal is given anesthesia but does not die, according to the doctor's report, and then is slaughtered according to Shari`ah (Islamic law), whether this was by a chemical substance or a bullet, is it permissible to eat from it?

A: If the situation is as you have mentioned, that the animal is still alive after the injury until slaughtering, it will be permissible to eat. However, if it is shocked by electricity, shot with a bullet and so on, it will be impermissible to eat, as this method entails harm to the animal, unless it cannot be slaughtered otherwise, such as a raging beast.
