Is it permissible for a Muslim

Q: Is it permissible for a person to perform Hajj or `Umrah on behalf of a relative who lives far from Makkah and cannot reach it even though he is able to perform Tawaf (circumambulation of the Ka`bah)?

A: Your relative does not have to perform Hajj as long as he is (Part No. 11; Page No. 52) financially unable to do so. But it is not permissible to perform Hajj on his behalf since he is physically able to perform it. Performing Hajj by proxy is permissible on behalf of a deceased person or one who is physically unable to perform the rites of Hajj.May Allah grant us success.
