Carrying the grandfather's name

A: It is permissible to carry the grandfather's name since he is the father of your father. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "I am the Prophet, it is not a lie. I am the son of `Abdul-Muttalib." He said that even though `Abdul-Muttalib (Part No. 20; Page No. 368) was his paternal grandfather. The Prophet's name is Muhammad ibn `Abdullah ibn `Abdul-Muttalib. At the same time, a Muslim has to register their father's name in order to avoid any confusion when it comes to matters related to inheritance and the like. May Allah grant us success.
