Excessive usage of water during Wudu'

Q: What is the ruling on using as much amount of water for Wudu' (ablution) as one Sa` (1 Sa`= 3 kg. Approx.) or more due to believing that less amount of water will not be enough for a perfect Taharah (ritual purification)? What is the ruling on a person who, when performing Wudu', always feels that he is going to break wind and tries to restrain himself. He sometimes also feels that he breaks wind without hearing a sound or perceiving a smell? How do you advise him? He has doubts regarding the validity of his Wudu', as in the first case, and about Taharah, as in the second case? A: It is Mustahab (desirable) to use a small amount of water and perform Wudu' thoroughly following the example of the Prophet (peace be upon him). It is not permissible to be wasteful in using water for either Wudu' or Ghusl (full ritual bath), as the Prophet (peace be upon him) prohibited it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) would perform Wudu' using a Mud (a dry measure of half bushel, 543 grams) of water and would perform Ghusl using a Sa`. He (peace be upon him) prohibited using water wastefully. This fact is stated in the Hadith reported on the authority of Anas who said: (Part No. 4; Page No. 73

(Related by Ibn Majah) This is in addition to other evidence of prohibiting extravagance in general. As for doubting whether one has broken wind after Wudu', it does not invalidate the state of Taharah. Mere doubt is insufficient, as certainty is not removed by doubt. When asked about the same issue, the Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: Do not leave the Masjid unless you hear a sound or perceive a smell.
