Castration of animals

Q 4: What is the Islamic ruling on the castration of animals?

A: This is permissible if there is public benefit, based upon the evidence reported by Imam Ahmad and Al-Hakim on the authority of Abu Rafi` (may Allah be pleased with him) who said The Prophet (peace be upon him) sacrificed two white, castrated rams with big horns. He said in Majma` (Part No. 26; Page No. 163) Al-Zawa'id, "The Isnad (chain of narrators) of this Hadith is Hasan (good)." May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
