Calling the father-in-law and his wife an uncle and aunt

Q 1: Many desert inhabitants consider their father-in-law as their uncle and the mother-in-law as their aunt and vice versa. The wife calls her husband's parents as uncle and aunt and in both cases they become Mahrams (unmarriageable relatives). Please advise us in this regard.

A: There is no harm as this is done to show respect to the parents of one's wife or husband. The father-in-law is considered a Mahram to his daughter-in-law while the daughter's husband becomes a Mahram to his mother-in-law. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
