Being dutiful to the parents after their death

Q 2: Can we show dutifulness to parents after their death?

A: Proofs from the Sunnah (acts, sayings or approvals of the Prophet) indicate that dutifulness can be shown to parents after their death by supplicating to Allah for them, executing their will, maintaining ties of kinship, and being generous to their friends. It is reported in Sunan Abu Dawud, on the authority of Abu Usayd Al-Sa`idy (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: We were sitting with Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) when a man of Banu Salamah came to him and asked, 'O Messenger of Allah, is there any acts of kindness to parents left that I can do to them after their death?' He (peace be upon him) replied, 'Yes, to supplicate to them, to ask forgiveness for them, to fulfill their promises after their death, to maintain the ties of kinship that cannot be maintained except through them, and honor their friends.' (Part No. 25; Page No. 183) May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and Companions.
