After burying the deceased, a lot of people put some new clothes and pieces of furniture on the graves and leave them there

Q 1: After burying the deceased, a lot of people put some new clothes and pieces of furniture on the graves and leave them there. What is the ruling on such practice? Is it permissible for a poor person to take these things and use them? (Part No. 7; Page No. 436) Or, it is permissible to collect such things and set fire to them so that people may give up this habit, particularly that they have been informed that these practices are not religiously permissible. I would be grateful if you could explain this question in detail supported with religious evidence.

A: This practice is a Bid`ah (innovation in religion) that a Muslim is not permitted to do. Moreover, the authorities have to condemn this practice and remove the clothing and pieces of furniture and confiscate them. If the owners of these things pledge not to do it again, they are to be given back to them; otherwise, the authorities can use them for the public interests.May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
