A woman refusing to marry after her husband's death

Q 2: Is it permissible for a woman to refuse marriage after the death of her first husband? Is it permissible for the husband to order his wife not to remarry if he dies before her? We appreciate your advice.

A: It is not permissible for a woman to refuse marriage after the death of her first husband because this is a special ruling for the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Also it is not permissible for the husband to order his wife not to remarry after his death. A wife does not have to obey her husband if he orders her to do so. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Submission is obligatory only in what is good (and reasonable). May Allah grant us success.
