Q:
Is it permissible for women to dance in front of men?
A:
It is obligatory on a Muslim woman to observe modesty and cover herself with a full Hijab (veil) in front of men who are non-Mahrams (not a spouse or an unmarriageable relative) to her. She has to avoid the causes of Fitnah (temptation), and one of the greatest things to avoid is dancing in front of Ajanib (men other than a husband or permanently unmarriageable male relatives). This is Haram (prohibited) and impermissible, as it contradicts modesty, causes temptation, and falling into immorality. A Muslim woman should therefore avoid doing this and anything else that may cause Fitnah. May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
