A menstruating woman sees the sign

Q 2: Five days after the monthly period is over, she sees Sufrah (yellow vaginal discharge during or after menstruation) or Kudrah (dusky-colored vaginal discharge during or after menstruation). Should she stop offering Salah (Prayer) and Sawm (Fasting) due to this discharge? Should she perform Ghusl (full ritual bath) for it? Two days after her Ghusl for having this discharge, it occurred again. What should she do?

A: If a woman sees Sufrah or Kudrah after her period is over and she has performed Ghusl, she should pay no attention to it. She has to observe Salah and Sawm, and she need not perform Ghusl because of this discharge. This is based on the report of Um `Atiyyah who said: "We used to consider Sufrah and Kudrah after the period has ended as nothing (i.e. not menses)." Similarly, nothing is required of her if this discharge recurs after two days. Yet, she has to perform Wudu' for every Salah when its time is due as long as Sufrah and Kudrah continue. The Prophet (peace be upon him) ordered the woman who suffered from Istihadah (abnormal vaginal bleeding outside the menstrual or postpartum period) to do so at the time of every Salah. This applies if Sufrah and Kudrah are continuous. But if she sees no discharge when the time of Salah is due, her Taharah (ritual purification) prior to this time is valid.
