Q 2: A man says:
When I come back from travelling, the wives of my paternal and maternal uncles welcome me with kisses.
(Part No. 17; Page No. 26) They are not less than 45 years old. I also shake hands with them in the same way I do with my sisters and daughters. Kindly enlighten me on the related ruling. May Allah safeguard you.
A:
It is forbidden for you to kiss the wives of your paternal or maternal uncles or to kiss the wives of your brothers. They have to wear Hijab (veil) and lower their gaze in your presence. Allah (Exalted be He) says:
Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts). That is purer for them. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware of what they do.
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.), and to draw their veils all over Juyûbihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands
You are also forbidden to shake hands with them. It will be enough if you greet them with Salam (Islamic greeting of peace). The Prophet (peace be upon him) is never known to have shaken hands with a woman. (Part No. 17; Page No. 27) May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.
